About Andaman & Nicobar Public Works Department (APWD):
The Andaman & Nicobar Public Works Department (APWD) is a premier government body responsible for the planning, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. APWD plays a vital role in the development of civic amenities, town planning, and architectural projects across the islands. The department is now inviting applications for the position of Senior Architect on a deputation basis for a period of 3 years.

Eligibility Criteria:
Essential Qualifications:
- Educational Qualification:
- Degree in Architecture from a recognized University/Institute.
- Experience:
- 11 years of experience in Government Organizations/Departments/PSUs/Autonomous Institutions.
- Professional Registration:
- Registered with the Council of Architecture.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Post Graduate Degree in Architecture OR Degree/Diploma in Town/City/Urban/Regional Planning from a recognized University.
- One year of experience in Town Planning, Civic Designing, or Building Control Regulations.
- Fellowship of the Indian Institute of Architects or membership of a professional institute.
- Six months Certificate/Diploma Course in AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, or Revit.
Deputation Eligibility:
- Officers from Central Government, State Governments, Union Territory Administrations, Autonomous/Statutory Organizations, Public Sector Undertakings, or Recognized Universities/Institutes/Research Institutions are eligible.
- Candidates must either:
- Hold an analogous post on a regular basis in their parent cadre/department, OR
- Have 5 years of service in the grade after appointment to a post in Pay Band-3 (₹15,600 – ₹39,100) with Grade Pay of ₹7,600 or equivalent, OR
- Have 10 years of service in the grade after appointment to a post in Pay Band-3 (₹15,600 – ₹39,100) with Grade Pay of ₹6,600 or equivalent.
Age Limit:
- The maximum age limit for appointment is 56 years as of the closing date of application (30th April 2025).
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing architectural design and planning for public infrastructure projects.
- Contributing to town planning and civic design initiatives.
- Ensuring compliance with building control regulations.
- Collaborating with government bodies and stakeholders for project execution.

Selection Process:

- Pay and Allowances:
- Pay Level-13 (₹1,23,100 – ₹2,15,900) with DA as admissible.
- Special Compensatory Allowance and Island Special Allowance as per rules.
- Deputation Allowance as per government norms.
- Accommodation:
- Rent-free unfurnished accommodation subject to review.
- Travel Benefits:
- Free sea passage once a year for self and family members while proceeding/returning from leave.
- Tenure:
- Initially for 3 years, extendable based on performance and requirements.
- Age Limit:
- The maximum age for deputation is 56 years.
- Other Benefits:
- The selected officer will have the option to either fix their pay in the deputation post or draw pay from their parent department plus deputation allowance.
Important Notes:
- The period of deputation (including any previous deputation) shall not exceed 5 years.
- Officers once selected cannot withdraw their candidature or refuse to join.
- The sponsoring authority must release the selected officer within 1 month of the appointment order.
