About Andaman & Nicobar Public Works Department (APWD):

The Andaman & Nicobar Public Works Department (APWD) is a key government body responsible for the planning, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. APWD plays a crucial role in the development of civic amenities, town planning, and architectural projects across the islands. The department is now inviting applications for the position of Architect on a deputation basis for a period of 2 years.

ligibility Criteria:

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Educational Qualification:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from a recognized University or Institute.
  2. Experience:
    • One year of experience in Town PlanningCivic Designing, or Building Control Regulations.
  3. Professional Membership:
    • Fellowship or membership of the Indian Institute of Architects.
  4. Technical Skills:
    • Certificate/Diploma in AutoCADArchiCADRevit, or any other software application for architectural illustration or rendering.

Deputation Eligibility:

  • Officers from Central Government, State Governments, Union Territory Administrations, Autonomous/Statutory Organizations, Public Sector Undertakings, or Recognized Universities/Institutes/Research Institutions are eligible.
  • Candidates must either:
    • Hold an analogous post on a regular basis in their parent cadre/department, OR
    • Have 5 years of service after appointment to a post in Level-9 or Level-10 in the Pay Matrix (or equivalent) in their parent cadre/department.

Age Limit:

  • The maximum age limit for appointment is 56 years as of the closing date of application (30th April 2025).

    • Vigilance Clearance Certificate.
    • Integrity Certificate.
    • Statement of Penalties (if any).
    • ACR Dossier for the last 5 years (attested copies if submitted).

Selection Process:

  • Applications will be screened based on eligibility criteria and supporting documents.
  • Shortlisted candidates may be called for further assessment or interviews.
  • Note: Incomplete applications or those without the required documents will be rejected.

Terms and Conditions of Appointment:

  1. Pay and Allowances:
    • Pay Level-11 (₹67,700 – ₹2,08,700) with DA as admissible.
    • Special Compensatory Allowance and Island Special Allowance as per rules.
    • Deputation Allowance as per government norms.
  2. Accommodation:
    • Rent-free unfurnished accommodation subject to review.
  3. Travel Benefits:
    • Free sea passage once a year for self and family members while proceeding/returning from leave.
  4. Tenure:
    • Initially for 2 years, extendable based on performance and requirements.
  5. Age Limit:
    • The maximum age for deputation is 56 years.
  6. Other Benefits:
    • The selected officer will have the option to either fix their pay in the deputation post or draw pay from their parent department plus deputation allowance.

Important Notes:

  • The period of deputation (including any previous deputation) shall not exceed 4 years.
  • Officers once selected cannot withdraw their candidature or refuse to join.
  • The sponsoring authority must release the selected officer within 1 month of the appointment order.
