About the Organization

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is India’s premier agency for combating drug trafficking and abuse. It enforces the NDPS Act, 1985 and coordinates with national/international agencies to curb narcotics trade.

Job Description: Inspector (Deputation)

Vacancies: 94 (Across India – Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, etc.).
Employment Type: Deputation (Initial 3 years, extendable up to 7 years).
Pay Scale: Level-7 (7th CPC) – ₹9300-34800 + Grade Pay ₹4600 (pre-revised).

Key Responsibilities:

• Enforce the NDPS Act, 1985 – investigation, search, seizure, and arrest.

• Conduct financial investigations and initiate court trials.

• Destroy illicit opium/cannabis cultivation and lead demand-reduction activities.

• Train other law enforcement agencies and coordinate intelligence collection.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Current Posting: Central/State/UT Govt. officers holding:

  • Analogous post OR

  • 5+ years in Level-6 (7th CPC).

• Education: Bachelor’s degree + 3 years’ experience in enforcement of regulatory laws (e.g., criminal/economic offenses).

• Age Limit: ≤56 years (as of application closing date).

• Desirable: 1+ year in criminal investigation.
